From Our Sandy Island Visitors
1)
Dear Rommy Pyatt:
We really enjoyed our trip over to Sandy Island today.
We gave your brochure to the gift shop at Brookgreen
and hope to give one to the Georgetown Library. If
you have time, please send me Mary's address so I
can mail her something from Rhode Island when I return
home. Best of luck in all your ventures. We loved
the tour of the island. You really captained the boat
well. A cold day ... a warm welcome!
Thanks.

Hi Rommy,
I just wanted to touch base and thank you once again
for the beautiful tour of Sandy Island. You may have
heard from your mom and your cousin Tracey that we
came back the next morning for church; the perfect
follow up to give me even more memories to bring home
with me. I hope I'll be able to come back & visit
some day, sooner rather than later, but don't know
yet when that might be. I'll be sure to contact you
then, and you should do likewise next time you're
in New York.

Dear Rommy,
I really enjoyed my visit to Sandy Island today.
You made the island come alive with your historical
narration, along with your sense of humor and your
wicked keyboard playing. Enjoyed meeting your Granddaddy
and hearing a few of his stories. You are an asset
to the legacy of the founding families that lived
so long ago. Keep up the good work. Enjoy the pictures.
Sincerely,
Elaine Ryan

Hello Rommy,
Again, many thanks for an informative tour of
your island and my best wishes for your restoration
and tour expansion project. Please give my regards
to Mary, your cousin, at the Library. I will go
again for sure; next time for church service.
My Best,
Yvonne Watson

Greetings, Rommy!
Attached are four photos for your web gallery
(I think they're pretty close to the size you
display.)
Thanks for a great afternoon! We wish you much
success, and next time: I'm coming to church for
some of your great music!
Cheers!

Uncle was just a tad younger than your Grandad!)

Dear Rommy,
Thank you for the wonderful tour of Sandy Island.
The history, culture and unspoiled natural beauty
of that very special place that you call home intrigued
everyone in the family -young and old -. We enjoyed
the entire experience beginning with meeting you,
the boat ride to the island, meeting your sister,
bride and 91-year-old grandfather, touring the island
with you and learning about the past and the present,
including the efforts of the residents and others
to protect and preserve Sandy Island. It's encouraging
to see what a community can do when people work together.
I hope that I can return to Sandy Island to further
explore the river, the community and the sandy soiled
longleaf pine forest and to hopefully get a glimpse
of the red-cockaded woodpecker, "the savior of
Sandy Island." Finally, I must say that we were
all charmed by your warm hospitality, good nature
and generous spirit. Your love of the island is expressed
in so many ways - your descriptions of the night sounds
of owls and of being on the river under the light
of a full moon, your well-placed pride in the strength,
faith and perseverance of the island people and your
vast knowledge of the place. Thank you again for this
wonderful experience. It was the highlight of our
trip and it will stay with me for a long, long time.
Thinking of the beauty of the island and of your good
spirit puts me in a good frame of mind. I would like
to keep in touch and to come back to Sandy Island
soon. I know other people who would really appreciate
touring the island with with you. I have some photos
(I wish I had taken more) but I'm not sure how to
put them in the right format for e-mailing. I'll try
again when I figure it out or someone can help me.
Take care, Rommy. You are a great person with a fantastic
smile! Warmest regards to your family.
Sincerely,
Jane Oliver

Rommy,
My husband, a friend and I went on your tour in May.
I am the editor of the Indigo Creek Newsletter and
I did a little piece on the tour in our latest newsletter.
I am sending you the article in a PDF file. We really
enjoyed the tour. It was very relaxing. It is admirable
how you are working to contribute and preserve your
community and the way of life on Sandy Island.
Thank you.

Dear Rommy,
Thank you for the wonderful tour last Friday. We appreciate
your willingness to share your home, history, and
culture. Please also extend our thanks to the other
residents of the island -- and to Charles for giving
us a lift in his boat.We were unable to join you for
church on Sunday because my dog got sick and we had
to take care of her. But we will plan to attend on
another Sunday very soon.Thanks again.
Your friends,
Lynn & Mary Lou
